This year’s collection, Place d’Armes, is a bold reflection on queer courage, abundance, and prosperity.

Fortitude, by artist Sie Douglas-Fish, is a celebration of strength, identity, and collective pride. Inspired by the dual meaning of “pride”—as both a symbol of queer history and a community of lions—this piece honors the courage it takes to be authentic and the power found in unity.

A trio of lionesses for our 3rd year, poised and forward-facing, embody shared purpose. Their forms are woven with hues drawn from LGBTQ+ flags, subtly layered to reflect the richness and diversity of queer experience. Grounded in the natural world, Fortitude affirms what Douglas-Fish expresses clearly: queerness is not an exception to nature, but an essential part of it.

You collect your painting at https://www.acrylicrobotics.ca/product/fortitude. Proceeds benefits the artists, Acrylic Robotics, and LGBT+ VC’s nonprofit programs, it’s a win-win-win.

"I was inspired by pairing the word pride in context with queer history and the homonymous lions' pride — both communities forged from courage and the collective prosperity of a common characteristic. Referencing different flags' colors, Fortitude embraces the natural world and commends with it the existence of queerness, with lions being another species where instances of different gender and sexuality are equally as nuanced and expressed. A trio of strong lionesses look onward toward a future paved by resilience."
